Why Can’t You Work? As foreigners, we are not allowed to hold a job. In America, anyone can come and get a job; nearly everywhere else, the rules are greatly regulated and enforced. Even IF we could, holding a job keeps us from completing the full time work that we’ve been called to do. If missionaries “earned their keep”, we would not be missionaries; we would be Christians simply living and working abroad.
So Then How Do You Survive? God’s provision comes in many forms - supplies, prayers, finances, safety, guidance, emotional & spiritual support, etc. All of these are vital not only to SURVIVING, but in THRIVING in the life that He’s called us to live. As missionaries partner with God in the role of “Go-ers”, those blessed with jobs and finances fill the job of “Send-ers”. And for both go-ers and send-ers there is the cooperative role of “pray-ers”.
It’s Not Our Duty or Job. It’s Our Privilege to partner with what God is doing around the world through missionaries and a vital part of our role as Christ-followers. One way God ‘supplies all our needs’ is through people, the larger body of Christ.
Being Totally Dependant on God for the day-to-day cost of living and ministering is a very humbling and sometimes trying way to live. But it’s this dependency that defines a missionary, and one’s faith. It may appear to some that missionaries live on handouts; begging for money rather than earning it, but the reality is that following God’s instructions for our life sometimes look crazy or foolish, but must be obeyed despite appearances.
I ask you to hear my heart that we, as missionaries, as not looking for your donation for just monetary purposes. We truly desire for you to have the great privilege to partner with God to change lives and spread His message of hope. If we stop spreading this message, we stop being Christ-followers. I cannot accept that role and thus continue to serve God in this call sincerely asking that you partner with GOD and what HE’S doing here in the Philippines through TSC in 2012.
